The Sounds of Europe
Posted by the Bookshop
At a recent event, we had the wonderful opportunity to hear Nick Hunt talk about the journey from the Hook of Holland to Istanbul - and we also had the opportunity to listen to the sounds that he heard as he travelled. As Nick walked through Holland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey, he recorded 30 seconds of sound each day: from a chorus of car horns in Bulgaria ('I think they just do it for fun') to Romanian church bells, and from the cracking ice of the frozen Danube to the waves of the Black Sea.
Nick has edited his recordings into a continuous track of ambient sounds from his journey: dogs, rivers, traffic, boots in snow, singing and conversation. Listen here.
You can also hear Nick talk with Artemis Cooper about his journey on our podcast.
