Independent Bookshop Week 2016

Posted by the Bookshop

Once again this year we’re celebrating Independent Bookshop Week in true London Review Bookshop style: with cocktails, music, books, cinema and food!

Independent Bookshop Week, between 18 and 25 June, aims to promote and celebrate independent bookshops across the UK and Ireland. Organised by the Bookseller's Association, it’s a great way to show your support of indie shops like ours.

We hope you’ll join us for one of our many exciting events throughout the week!

We’re kicking off with a pop-up cocktail bar from the Cake Shop on 19 June, from 5-6 p.m. Later that evening there will be an Elena Ferrante-themed supper club, where Guardian food blogger Kate Young will be serving a four-course dinner based on the food featured in Ferrante’s epic Neapolitan novels, set in twentieth-century Italy.

There’ll be more delicious food coming your way on Wednesday 22 June, this time from the Cake Shop, who are organising their very own Happy Hour event. There’ll be 2 for 1 cocktails along with weird and wonderful snacks and small plates to purchase. The Bookshop will be open throughout this event, and we’ll also be offering a 10% discount on all books.

To mark the end of the week, on Friday 24 June, we’ll be hosting a screening of the classic film, The Shop Around the Corner. It inspired the classic Meg Ryan romcom You've Got Mail, and follows two warring employees of a small leather goods shop in 1940s Budapest. Before and during the screening we'll be serving refreshments, and the film will be introduced by our manager Natalia de la Ossa.

It’s set to be a wonderful celebration of all things bookish, independent and fun – we hope you can join us!
