1997: A New Poetry Magazine

Posted by John Clegg

Good Morning.

My name is Prestell Jaffe, the former CEO of Blockbuster Video. Since retiring in 2009 and disgrace, I’ve long been thinking about my next project. I’d like to introduce you to ‘1997: A Journal of New Poetry’.

Each issue of 1997 will be themed around a particular film from 1997, the greatest year in the history of cinema. The first five issues are themed as follows:

  1. Dante’s Peak (submissions deadline: mid-November)
  2. Con Air
  3. Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion
  4. I Know What You Did Last Summer
  5. Titanic

The magazine is published on an attractively-formatted single A4 sheet. To subscribe, simply send us as many stamps as you’d like to receive issues. Our postal address is c/o John Clegg, London Review Bookshop, 14 Bury Place, London WC1A 2JL. International subscribers, send us a note and we’ll try and work something out.

You can also subscribe instore at any branch of Blockbuster Videos – but be advised, we cannot currently accept Chip and PIN cards, or new-style £5/£10 banknotes.

To submit work for consideration in any of these five issues, please email nineteenninetysevenmagazine@gmail.com, with the issue you’d like the work to be considered for in the subject line. Poems should be up to 20 lines, prose up to 350 words.

With all best wishes,

Prestell Jaffe, editor-in-chief
